A Letter from Steve & Mary

Thank you for taking the time to get to know us! We are thrilled to start this journey through parenthood and look forward to working with you throughout this journey. The Lord has guided us to this moment in our lives and we are so excited to be mom and dad.

Mary is an adventurous Spanish teacher and Steve is a nature-loving engineer. Together we are a fun, loving, hard-working, and joyful couple. Our families and our Catholic faith play an important role in our lives and we are excited to share that with your child.

About Us

We met at a Christmas party five years ago through mutual friends where an instant friendship was formed. Eventually, Steve asked Mary out took her shoe shopping for himself first, and then to a delightful dinner. The laughter hasn’t stopped for us since, and we feel very blessed in our marriage.

We’re also blessed in our ability to travel, which has brought us to underground caves in Mexico, rock climbing in the Grand Canyon, and puffin islands in Ireland. We can usually be found hiking a trail as we search for birds like snowy owls or golden eagles. Every day is an adventure for us and we are looking forward to exploring both near and far with our first child.

Meet Steve

Steve is witty, intelligent, and always positive! He has a way of putting others first, especially when it means making others laugh. He loves to bring people together through game nights, fishing, pick-up soccer and bird watching.

He has a fascination with nature and has worked diligently to remove invasive species from our woods. I know that he looks forward to teaching your child all about animals, trees, insects, plants, and soccer! I am truly blessed to have such an amazing husband and am excited to see him as a father.

Meet Mary

Mary is supportive, encouraging, and quick to laugh! Her two favorite hobbies have always been traveling and cooking. She is continually exploring new recipes from around the world and making them all gluten-free! She has a heart for service, whether on mission trips abroad or at her school. Mary also loves to sing, especially in the new teacher choir! Her love for children has directed her career and I know that her nurturing heart will make her an incredible mother. I know that she looks forward to singing songs, reading books, and teaching Spanish to your child.

Our Family

When it comes to family, we are blessed in abundance.  Mary comes from a fantastic family of eight and Steve comes from a loving family of five. Both of our families now live in Pennsylvania within twenty minutes from our home, so family visits happen often!

When together, there is never a shortage of laughter as we play board games, watch cooking shows, discuss Grandma’s stories, conduct nerf wars, play with our year-old niece, and eat delicious food. Your child will be the first grandchild on Steve’s side, and both sides of the family are excited for another family member.

Our Home in Pennsylvania

We stumbled upon our home in Pennsylvania and simply love it. Steve has cultivated a natural habitat for birds and other creatures in our woods and Mary has a lovely vegetable garden. Looking at our yard, it’s easy to picture a child making a fort in the woods someday and exploring. We love to host in our cozy home with constant yummy smells coming from the kitchen. Our neighborhood is small, inviting, and close to parks, our church, and other families with young children. Mary’s brother, sister-in-law, and niece live around the corner.

Our Promise

We promise to raise your child in a faith-filled home with opportunities to grow in kindness, service, and generosity and a life filled with adventure, learning, growth, laughter, and love. We firmly believe that God has His hand in this union and our promise to you is to allow Him to guide us in caring for your child every step of their life. You are an important and honored member in this journey, and your child’s adoption story will be shared and cherished.

We embrace an open relationship are look forward to sharing with you letters, pictures, and visits as your child grows.

More About Our Family
Our Special Interests

Steve is interested in playing soccer with local pick up groups. He is also very active in his interest in nature through bird watching, fishing and creating natural habitats in our yard.
Mary is interested in cooking new foods, especially from food grown in the garden. Mary also loves to read and tends to read in Spanish to keep up her Spanish skills.
Both Mary and Steve enjoy hiking and traveling, either abroad to experience new cultures, or within the US to check out the beautiful National Parks and for Steve to see new birds.

Our Faith

Our faith is an integral part of our daily lives. Our faith guides every decision we make and keeps us strong and reliant on God in all circumstances. We both grew up Catholic and attend weekly mass and several other Church events throughout the year. Mary works at a Catholic school in order to have the opportunity to share her faith with her students.

Our Musical Interest

We both lovely country music and going every summer to see Zac Brown Band has become a tradition for us. We also enjoy Blue Grass, pop, Latino, contemporary and Irish music. Steve sometimes plays the guitar and Mary likes to sing with the school choir whenever possible. We love to go to the local Irish Festival each year and check out new bands at free summer concerts.

About Our Home

Our home is cozy with three bedrooms and one bath. Half of our property is wooded which is taken care of by Steve, and we also have a garden which is taken care of by Mary.

Our Traditions

We really have enjoyed incorporating traditions from both sides of our family and making new ones!
For Saint Patrick's Day, we always start with a hearty Irish breakfast, go to the city's big parade, and then to see Mary's favorite Irish band, Guaranteed Irish.
For Easter we make intricate crosses out of palm branches from Steve's Sicilian heritage. We also make a basket to be blessed at a Polish Holy Saturday mass filled with Easter morning breakfast foods of kielbasa, hard boiled eggs, a lamb made from butter, and bread.
In May, we go to Magee Marsh to find warblers, which are a tiny bird that migrate from as far as South America!
On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, we watch the Ohio State vs Michigan State and cheer on Ohio State because Steve's dad went there and we have a great spread of snacks!
In the winter, we go owling, which consists of either going to a local park where they catch and release tiny little sawhet owls, listening for owls in our neighborhood, or keeping an eye out for owl sightings by others.
On St Nicholas day in December, Mary's family gets together to decorate her parents' house for Christmas and everyone gets goodies in their shoes.
For Christmas, we go to the nursing home where Mary's father works to wish the residents a Merry Christmas and celebrate mass.

We live in the state of...

Pennsylvania! Mary loves the hills of Pennsylvania and Steve has taken every opportunity to learn about the birds and trees nearby. There is a lot of history in our state and parks full of trails for great hikes and birding.

Our Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is a two block dead end in a suburb. Our neighbors are the type to come together to recharge a battery in negative temperatures (true story for Mary!), to have a “beach” for the children during the summer and to all go trick or treating together. We also have a block party every few years. We are not far from parks, ice cream shoppes, our church, and a Science Center.
